Back to Reality…

Standard

I can’t believe it is January 21st already! Where has the month gone? This year didn’t start off the way I wanted it to BUT that’s not stopping me.

“Telling the future by looking at the past assumes that conditions remain constant. This is like driving a car by looking in the rearview mirror.”

If you read my last post you know that I started off 2013 with a big case of the flu. I tried to pretend that it wasn’t happening, but 105 fever and chills is nothing to mess with.  The body aches were unbearable. I actually found myself WISHING for marathon leg pain compared to the aches that the flu was giving me. I had never experienced pain like that before and was sidelined for 7 days from doing anything. If any good came out of being sick it was that my thoughts about what is on TV are correct, nothing! Although I was tempted a few times to buy the Grip Go Mobile Phone Holder and the Perfect Tortilla Pan. Thank goodness I didn’t have the energy to get up and find my credit card or I would have been in trouble.

I did however have perfect timing and just so happen to be better in time for my trip to Costa Rica! A great getaway with one of my best friends from college. My plan was to hit the road each day and log some miles while vacationing but congestion in my chest prevented that. I was able to get in a 2 mile jog our first morning. As much as I dislike working out in the morning on a “regular” day, there is something so peaceful about getting up with the birds and embracing the beauty of nature at dawn.

Rules to run by: if it’s above the neck your are in the clear, below the neck double check.

All in all GREAT vacation. Volcano spotting. Rain forest hike. Zip lining. Arrived home feeling rested, healthy and ready to re-start the new year! (and time to start planning my next vacation! I have the urge to use my passport more often 🙂 Check back for my tri training updates! It’s been a wild week since I’ve been back!
